What Is Swing Catalyst and Who Should Use It

Swing Catalyst is a professional swing analysis software platform that synchronises multi-angle video with launch monitor data and, in higher-tier configurations, pressure and force plate readings from underfoot sensors. It is made by Initial Force AS in Norway and is used across PGA Tour facilities, national coaching academies, and private instruction studios worldwide. A home-user edition also makes the core video and launch monitor integration available to amateur golfers for self-analysis. Whether Swing Catalyst belongs in your setup depends on what you need to measure and which plan fits your budget.

What Swing Catalyst Actually Does

At its core, Swing Catalyst records live video from one or more cameras, then synchronises that footage frame-by-frame with the shot data coming from your launch monitor. When you review a swing, you can scrub the video timeline and see the exact ball speed, spin rate, launch angle, and club path data corresponding to the moment of impact.

The higher-tier plans add a second layer of data from sensor plates placed under the golfer's feet. These plates capture how weight shifts between left and right foot during the swing, where peak pressure builds in the stance, and how ground force changes from takeaway through to follow-through. This type of data is not visible from video alone or from any launch monitor.

Markerless Motion Capture, available in the Pro plan and as an add-on for Home, uses the camera feed to track joint positions and calculate centre of mass movement without attaching markers or sensors to the golfer's body. This requires no calibration and works in real time during a session.

The Three Swing Catalyst Software Plans

Home ($195 per year)

The Home edition supports up to two cameras, launch monitor integration, and up to five player profiles. It includes a basic set of drawing tools (lines, circles, angles) for annotating video. Markerless Motion Capture is available as a paid add-on but is not included in the base price. The plan does not include the record-lesson feature or pressure plate integration. Requires Windows 11 or later.

This plan suits amateur golfers who want to record their swing from two angles and overlay launch monitor data for self-review. At $195 per year, it is the entry point into the Swing Catalyst ecosystem.

Pro ($600 per year)

The Pro plan adds two additional camera channels (up to four total), Markerless Motion Capture, pressure plate integration, unlimited player profiles, the full analysis tool set, and the ability to record narrated video lessons for sharing with students. It is the plan most teaching professionals use.

Pressure plate integration is only useful if you own a Swing Catalyst pressure or motion plate. The plates are hardware items sold separately. Without the hardware, the software runs at this plan level but the plate features stay inactive.

Pro+ ($1,500 per year)

Pro+ is specifically required for users who have Swing Catalyst force plates. Force plates measure raw vertical and horizontal ground forces in addition to pressure distribution, and they require the Pro+ software tier to function. If you do not own force plates, the Pro plan covers all other features at significantly lower cost.

Which Launch Monitors Work with Swing Catalyst

Swing Catalyst integrates directly with the following:

• Foresight Sports GCQuad, GCHawk, and GC3

• Foresight Sports GCQuad MAX and Falcon (software version 24.1 or newer)

• Bushnell Launch Pro

• FlightScope Mevo+, X2, X2.1, X2 Elite, X3, Xi, Xi+, Xi TP, and Xi Range (direct connection; FlightScope's own app must be disconnected when Swing Catalyst is active)

• Full Swing Golf FS Golf, Pro Studio, and E6 1.6

TrackMan (models 1 through 4) integrates via the TPS software but is limited to existing TrackMan customers. Garmin devices are not currently on the supported list.

For Foresight users, the GC3 and GCQuad connect directly to Swing Catalyst without needing FSX software running alongside it. This simplifies the setup and avoids conflicts between applications.

What the Combined Data View Shows a Coach

The value of Swing Catalyst in a lesson environment is that the coach sees video, ball data, and ground force or pressure readings on one screen at the same time, rather than switching between separate tools. A student who has a steep angle of attack can be shown the video frame at impact, the attack angle number from the launch monitor, and the pressure trace showing where their weight was at the moment of contact.

Without the synchronisation, a coach might identify from the launch monitor that the path is well to the left but have to manually find the corresponding video frame. Swing Catalyst removes that step. This is why it is standard equipment in many high-level coaching facilities rather than a discretionary add-on.

When Swing Catalyst Is and Is Not Worth It

Swing Catalyst makes sense if:

• You teach multiple students and need to record, annotate, and share lessons

• You are a serious amateur working with a coach who uses the software and wants to share session footage remotely

• You are building a simulator room that will double as an instruction space

It is less likely to be worth the subscription cost if your main use is playing simulator rounds. For recreational play, the launch monitor and simulation software handle everything you need. Swing Catalyst is a coaching and analysis tool, not a game software platform.

The Home plan at $195 per year is accessible enough that self-coached golfers with a methodical approach to improvement do find value in it, particularly for comparing swings over time and overlaying launch monitor numbers with video.
