Unlike the Trackman 4, which is a portable floor unit that works indoors and outdoors, the Trackman iO is built entirely around the indoor environment. It mounts to the ceiling, requires no floor clearance, and eliminates the need for any external lighting in the bay.
How the Trackman iO Works
The iO uses Trackman's Optically Enhanced Radar Tracking (OERT) technology, the same foundation that underpins professional-grade Trackman units used on tour.
The unit pairs a 24 GHz ultra-low-power radar with a dual camera system: a high-speed camera capable of up to 4,600 frames per second for club and ball tracking, and a patented alignment camera for automatic target alignment. An embedded infrared light system (810 to 850 nm) is built into the unit, which means no external lighting is required.
No markers are needed on the club or ball.
What Data the Trackman iO Measures
The Trackman iO captures the following ball data: Ball Speed, Launch Angle, Launch Direction, Spin Rate, Spin Axis, Hang Time, Height, Curve, Landing Angle, Carry, Side, Total Distance, Side Total, and Smash Factor.
Club data on the Home Complete and Commercial tiers includes Club Speed, Face Angle, Club Path, Face to Path, Impact Height, Impact Offset, Dynamic Loft, Spin Loft, and Attack Angle.

Installation and Space Requirements
The Trackman iO has no minimum space requirements in front of or behind the hitting position. All that is needed is enough room to swing a club. This makes it practical for bays where a floor unit would require significant clearance behind the golfer.
The unit itself is compact: 333 x 333 x 107 mm (roughly 13 x 13 x 4 inches) and 3.9 kg. It mounts via a standard VESA fitting directly to the ceiling or on a drop-down pole. The ceiling footprint is 30 cm x 30 cm.
For commercial venues running multi-bay setups, the Trackman iO DUO configuration supports bays as narrow as 10 feet and accommodates both right-handed and left-handed players.
Software Compatibility
The Trackman iO runs on Trackman Performance Studio (TPS), which includes Virtual Golf 3. TPS provides access to simulator play on licensed courses, shot analysis, performance tracking, practice modes, and Trackman's online tournaments and leagues.
The Trackman iO works within Trackman's software ecosystem only. It does not connect to GSPro or TGC 2019. Buyers who want compatibility with third-party simulator software should consider the Trackman 4, which supports a broader range of simulation platforms, or a Foresight-based setup.
Trackman iO vs Trackman 4
The Trackman 4 is a portable floor unit with a starting price of around USD 25,495. It works indoors and outdoors, runs on a built-in battery, and requires a minimum of 4.7 metres (16 feet) between the unit and the impact screen for accurate indoor tracking.
The iO removes all of those constraints for the indoor buyer. The ceiling mount frees up the floor entirely, the embedded infrared light removes external lighting needs, and the starting price is lower. The trade-off is that the iO is a fixed installation with no battery and no outdoor capability.
For a permanent indoor bay, the iO delivers Trackman-level data with a simpler setup than the Trackman 4.
